PACE Training Essentials is a CPD online course introducing the trauma-informed PACE framework (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy). It equips educators, carers, and support professionals with practical strategies to build emotional safety, strengthen relationships, and respond effectively to children’s behaviour through connection rather than control.

Description

PACE Training Essentials is a comprehensive CPD online course designed for educators, support staff, carers, and professionals working with children and young people in education, care, and therapeutic settings.

This course introduces the PACE framework, developed by clinical psychologist Dr Dan Hughes, and provides practical, real-world strategies for building emotionally safe, trusting relationships with children who may have experienced trauma, attachment disruption, or emotional dysregulation.

PACE stands for Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, and Empathy. It is a relational and trauma-informed approach that shifts practice away from behaviour control and towards connection, co-regulation, and emotional safety.

Throughout this course, learners will explore how behaviour can be understood as communication, and how adult responses can either escalate or de-escalate emotional situations. The training focuses on building consistent, reflective, and emotionally regulated practice that supports both children and professionals.

Learners will develop confidence in applying PACE across everyday classroom and care situations, including moments of distress, refusal, withdrawal, and behavioural escalation. The course also supports professionals in developing reflective practice, team consistency, and long-term relational strategies.

This CPD course includes structured modules, real-life case studies, practical response scripts, reflective templates, and a final knowledge assessment.

By the end of the course, learners will be able to confidently apply PACE principles to improve emotional safety, strengthen relationships, and support positive outcomes for children and young people.
