About Course
Understanding How Your Body Works is a short, self-paced CPD course designed specifically for dancers, dance teachers, instructors and performing arts practitioners.
Your body is your instrument. Understanding how it works can help you move more effectively, prepare for training, recognise what your body is telling you, and develop healthier habits that support long-term participation in dance.
The course explores the fundamentals of the body in movement, including mobility, flexibility, strength, alignment, warm-up, recovery, body awareness and injury prevention.
You will also consider what happens to the body when you spend long periods sitting or inactive and how you can prepare your body before demanding movement.
The focus is not on pushing through discomfort. It is about developing greater awareness, making informed choices and learning how to look after your body throughout your dance journey.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Understand the basic role of bones, muscles and joints in movement.
- Explain the importance of mobility, flexibility and strength for dancers.
- Understand why preparation and warm-up are important.
- Recognise how prolonged sitting and inactivity can affect movement.
- Identify basic signs that your body may need rest, recovery or adjustment.
