About Course

This CPD course provides practical, accessible awareness education on men’s prostate health, with a specific focus on prostate cancer and the importance of early detection. It is designed as a non-clinical learning programme that helps participants understand key health information, recognise potential risk factors, and develop the confidence to take early action when needed.

The course explores what the prostate is, how it changes with age, and why men over 40 should be more proactive about their health. It also addresses early warning signs, higher-risk groups, and the common reasons men delay seeking medical support.

Participants are introduced to the basics of PSA testing and learn how to approach conversations with a GP in a clear and confident way. The course also focuses on mindset, encouraging a shift from avoidance and silence toward responsibility, awareness, and early action.

Course length: 60–90 minutes CPD session (can be delivered as a single workshop or expanded into multi-module delivery)

By the end of the programme, learners will be able to recognise when to seek medical advice, understand how to engage with healthcare services effectively, and develop a personal commitment to proactive health management.

Course Content

MODULE 1: Foundations of Prostate Health Awareness
This module introduces the foundational knowledge needed to understand prostate health in a clear, practical, and non-clinical way. It helps learners build awareness of what the prostate is, why it matters, and how it changes with age, particularly for men over 40.The module also explores why prostate-related conditions are common, including enlargement and cancer awareness, and why early awareness is more important than waiting for symptoms to appear. Learners are guided through key risk factors such as age, ethnicity, and family history, helping them understand their personal level of risk.In addition, the module highlights early warning signs that should not be ignored, while reinforcing that symptoms may appear late or not at all in the early stages. It concludes by addressing the cultural and emotional barriers that prevent men from seeking help, encouraging a shift from silence and avoidance to responsibility and early action.By the end of this module, learners will have a clear understanding of prostate health, their potential risk factors, and the importance of speaking to a healthcare professional early and confidently.

It provides clear, non-clinical guidance on the PSA test, helping learners understand what it measures, what results may indicate at a general level, and why it should not be viewed as a standalone diagnostic tool.Learners are also supported in developing confidence when speaking to a GP, including how to start conversations, what questions to ask, and how to overcome common barriers such as embarrassment or avoidance. The module then outlines what typically happens after a PSA test, helping learners understand the possible next steps and the importance of follow-up care.A key focus is the difference between early detection and late diagnosis, highlighting how early action can significantly improve options and outcomes. The module concludes by guiding learners in creating a personal health action plan, encouraging regular check-ins, awareness of family health history, and ongoing responsibility for their own wellbeing.By the end of this module, learners will feel more confident engaging with healthcare professionals and will understand the importance of acting early rather than waiting for symptoms to develop.

It supports learners in moving beyond awareness into sustained action, helping them recognise and challenge avoidance behaviours that often prevent men from engaging with healthcare services early.The module encourages a shift from fear-based thinking to personal responsibility, reframing health as an ongoing commitment rather than a reactive response to illness. It also explores the importance of communication within families, highlighting how open conversations between sons, brothers, and fathers can help break generational silence around men’s health.Finally, the module reinforces the importance of maintaining regular engagement with healthcare services, including routine GP visits, monitoring personal health changes, and staying informed over time. It encourages learners to develop practical habits that support long-term wellbeing and early intervention.By the end of this module, learners will have a stronger mindset for sustained health action, improved communication around men’s health, and a clearer understanding of how to maintain proactive health behaviours throughout life.

Men’s Health Awareness: Prostate Cancer & Early Action – CPD Assessment
This assessment evaluates understanding of prostate health awareness, risk factors, early warning signs, PSA testing, GP engagement, and early detection principles. It measures learners’ ability to apply knowledge from the course into practical health decision-making and appropriate early action.
