Course Content

Module 1: The Reality of Leadership Fatigue (10 mins)
This opening module sets the tone for the course by tackling one of the most overlooked aspects of leadership — emotional exhaustion. Leaders are often expected to stay composed, solution-focused, and constantly available, but this expectation comes at a personal cost.Participants will explore the emotional and psychological demands of leadership, reflecting on how constant problem-solving, difficult conversations, and staff resistance can drain motivation and clarity. The session highlights the subtle difference between staff resistance — where individuals consciously push back against direction — and incompetence, where performance gaps stem from lack of skill or understanding.Through guided reflection, participants will learn how to recognise the early warning signs of fatigue, understand how it develops into burnout, and begin identifying strategies to protect their wellbeing while maintaining authority.Key Learning Points:Acknowledge the hidden pressures and emotional costs of leadership.Distinguish between resistance and incompetence when addressing performance issues.Recognise the physical and mental signs that indicate fatigue is turning into burnout.

Module 3: Boundaries and Authority (15 mins)
Leadership is as much about saying “no” as it is about guiding others. Over-availability can unintentionally weaken your influence, leading to repeated disruptions and burnout. This module explores how to assert authority while maintaining professional relationships.Key learning points:How over-availability weakens leadership impact: Understanding the subtle ways constant accessibility reduces staff respect and creates dependency.Turning accountability into structure, not confrontation: Implementing systems where staff know their responsibilities without requiring constant oversight.Setting limits that protect time and focus: Practical strategies for managing your day, creating boundaries, and preserving energy for high-priority tasks.By the end of this module, participants will understand how to maintain authority, encourage accountability, and protect their own time and wellbeing.

Module 4: Restoring Personal Wellbeing (15 mins)
This module focuses on strategies to protect your mental, emotional, and physical health while leading under pressure. Leaders often sacrifice personal wellbeing to meet the demands of their role, which can lead to fatigue, stress, and burnout.Key Learning Points:Recognising your emotional triggers: Learn to identify situations, behaviours, or interactions that cause frustration or stress, enabling proactive management.Creating micro-moments of rest during the working day: Implement short, structured pauses to reset focus and energy without disrupting workflow.Building a personal leadership recovery routine: Develop consistent habits outside of work that restore mental clarity, emotional balance, and physical vitality.Outcome: By the end of this module, participants will understand how to safeguard their wellbeing, improve resilience, and maintain effective leadership even in challenging environments.

Module 5: Leading Culture Change (10 mins)
This module guides leaders on transforming team behaviour from mere compliance to genuine commitment. Participants will learn to:Foster engagement by moving beyond compliance to instil a sense of ownership and responsibility.Maintain consistent language, behaviour, and visibility to reinforce expectations and build trust.Model the professional standards they expect, setting a clear example for the team to follow.Outcome: Leaders will be able to influence team culture positively, creating an environment of accountability, consistency, and professional excellence.

Assessment / Reflection
Participants will engage in a short reflective exercise to consolidate learning. They are asked to identify one area of their leadership practice where they frequently repeat instructions and consider a structural or communication change they can implement to break the cycle. This reflection encourages leaders to:Recognise patterns that contribute to repeated messaging.Develop practical strategies to improve efficiency and clarity.Apply insights from the course to their own leadership context. The activity reinforces self-awareness and actionable change, supporting more effective and sustainable leadership.
