About Course

The IFDP Positive Parenting Skills Programme is a comprehensive online course that gives parents and carers of children aged 0 to 12 a complete toolkit of practical, positive parenting strategies. It suits any parent who wants to strengthen their relationship with their child, encourage good behaviour and feel more confident day to day.

Across eight modules, learners explore the principles of positive parenting, build warm relationships, encourage the behaviour they want to see, set fair boundaries and support children’s emotional, social and learning development. Each module includes short videos, real-life scenarios and a home activity to try that week.

The programme draws on the strengths families already have, including culture, faith and extended family, and helps parents shape a family approach that reflects their own values.

Module 3: Encouraging Positive Behaviour
This module teaches parents to notice and build the behaviour they want. Learners practise descriptive praise, encouragement, reward charts and modelling, and see how to teach new skills step by step.

Module 4: Setting Boundaries and Managing Misbehaviour
Clear limits help children feel secure. Parents learn to set ground rules, give effective instructions and use calm, fair consequences such as logical consequences and quiet time, avoiding harsh or physical punishment.

Module 5: Emotional Development and Self-Control
Children need help to understand and manage feelings. This module covers emotional literacy, helping children cope with frustration, anger and worry, and teaching self-control through everyday situations.

Module 6: Independence, Responsibility and Confidence
Confident children are given chances to try, fail and try again. Parents learn to give age-appropriate responsibilities, encourage problem-solving and build self-esteem and a positive sense of identity.

Module 7: Learning at Home and School
Parents are a child's first teachers. This module shows how to support reading, homework and curiosity at home and how to build a positive partnership with nursery and school.

Module 8: Bringing It All Together
The final module helps parents pull their learning into a single family plan. Learners plan for high-risk situations, look after their own wellbeing and identify how to keep strategies going over time.
