About Course

The IIFAL Functional Skills English – Entry Level 1 SLC course is designed to help learners develop essential speaking, listening and communication skills through practical, engaging and confidence-building activities.

Learners will build the ability to communicate clearly, listen actively, ask and answer questions appropriately, and participate effectively in group discussions and formal speaking activities. The course progresses from foundational spoken communication skills to structured assessed discussions, providing learners with the support and scaffolding needed to succeed at Entry Level 1.

This programme places strong emphasis on real-world communication, employability skills, respectful interaction and learner confidence. It is suitable for a wide range of learners and includes accessible approaches that support EAL, SEND and lower-confidence students.

Learners explore how to ask questions, make polite requests and communicate appropriately in formal and everyday situations.

Module 4: Opinions and Active Listening
Learners develop confidence in expressing opinions respectfully while strengthening active listening and response skills during discussions.

Module 5: Group Interaction and Discussion Roles
Learners participate in collaborative discussions while learning how communication roles support effective teamwork and respectful interaction.

Module 6: Mastering the Formal Assessed Discussion
